Governance
is a key factor to enabling wide-scale success in SOA
programs. The Harmony Governance framework
focuses on three primary areas of alignment:
1. Business
Alignment & Planning - SOA can, and should, be
used as a mechanism to align the needs of the business
with I.T. activities and systems. Competing business
objectives must be weighed and prioritized to focus
SOA efforts on the most valuable initiatives.
2. Design Time
Governance - If a service is properly designed, it
should be reusable across the enterprise. However,
designing for reuse takes more time and
resources. For this reason, it is necessary to
verify that Service Designs were done according to
pre-defined policies so that they can be broadly
consumed.
3. Provisioning
& Run Time Governance - The provisioning and
execution of services requires careful consideration.
Service Level Agreements and other operational
requirements must be defined and managed.
